I had this idea in my mind for a very long time. It was basically the thought of when DREAM is finished, to get back to it and try to make it back to lower pixelated resolution with reduced color space. Its a bit more difficult than I imagined, but thats how it always is
I have found quite optimal balance between resolution and pixels, and also the color space. The textures are basically ready, including all the support textures (normals, height, roughness etc) the NPCs kind of ready as well. It all needs a lot of testing and more work, but its shaping up!

This is not a retro mode Its just new textures and point filter set ingame.

Re: Codename DREAM 90s
The speckled graininess seems to give it more depth...or something.
I like the look of it.

Re: Codename DREAM 90s
Thank you!
And yes thats the Dithering. When you use reduced color space, this can be used to simulate "more colors" and was commonly used in the 90s for this exact reason. So ppl who played games in those times, will know this effect well. Im still experimenting with the settings. Different assets need different approach... but it seems doable. Its just much more difficult than I originally thought, but thats always the case

I guess Daggerfall could look like this in 1996... if it were made on the Quake engine.

The style reminds (not the NPCs) of Arx Fatalis.
